Three Items Essential to Being a Happy Nappy! pt. 1

Happy Monday everyone! I trust that you had a good weekend! Mine was good, long, and event filled, but we'll talk about that later!

I want to start a new series of posts that I will be adding to from time to time, listing the items that I have found essential to me on my natural hair journey. Now, for this first post, you will not find items that are commonly thought of when deciding to go natural...nooooo my sista/brotha...these are items that I realized I needed and thought to myself, "huh, say what now? I need that??" LOL (It's Monday, let me have fun!) So, here we go!

#1-Drano (or) Liquid Plumber (Professional Strength)

Never in my life have I had pipes clogged as much as I do now that I am natural, but think of it...we detangle in the shower, and then as we are styling our hair, we wash our hands in the sink...which causes excess hair to get caught in those pipes. (I know this is not just me...you don't have to admit it..I will for both of us...LOL)
I probably have to use my Drano once a month at most, and I haven't had any issues yet.
Please take note that I am recommending the commercial strength. You can pick this up at Home Depot or Lowe's for less than $15.00 for the big bottle which will last a good six months. Run...don't walk to your nearest home improvement store and get a big bottle today!! Your pipes will thank you!

#2-A CVS Extra Care Card
The CVS Extra Care card is a must to have for anyone, especially those of us with natural hair (and no CVS is not paying me).  Why you may ask? It's simple...CVS ALWAYS has a sale on V05 shampoo and conditioner, the conditioner being one of my staple products. Just last week, CVS had V05 on sale for a mere $0.69!!! I am so freaking mad that I missed that sale. The product junkie in me curses me out each time I pass by a CVS. I have also gotten sweet almond oil and aloe vera on sale with my CVS card. I use these items to mist may hair occasionally, and the aloe vera works great for me in defining my curls. If you are going to be a product junkie, you may as well save some money! As well, with regular use, CVS gives your coupons for items that you can actually use!

#3-Storage Drawer
So, what do you do with all of those products that you picked up from CVS? Instead of letting these items clutter your bathroom counter or shower, get one of these handy daddy storage drawers that fit right under most counters, or you can use it for other purposes in your bathroom if you don't have an niche. I have two that I use to hold all of my products and accessories. It's so much easier to find what you are looking for when it's organized. These carts retail at Wal-Mart for around $14.00, and you may be able to get them cheaper and in different colors during back-to-school time.

And there you have it...three items that are truly essential, that I never thought I'd need that I use with a startling frequency!

Tell me, what items have you found essential since beginning your natural hair journey?

  3. I've got a cheaper alternative for drano. My hubby throws down a ginormous jug of clorox down our drain every few months. It's a way cheaper solution.
